Broken Macro Fixer for Confluence — Documentation

Find every broken macro on your Confluence Cloud site and fix it in bulk, with a preview first and undo through page history.

Who can use it

Confluence site admins. The app lives in Confluence administration: open Settings (the gear icon), then choose Broken Macro Fixer in the sidebar.

Run your first scan

  1. Open Broken Macro Fixer and click Start scan.
  2. The scan runs in the background across every page in every space the app can read. You can leave the page; progress is saved, and large sites are scanned in batches.
  3. When it finishes you'll see a summary, such as "Broken macros: 37 on 21 pages", and a table of macros by name.

What the statuses mean

Each macro is also labelled as built-in, from an app (with the app name for well-known apps such as draw.io, Gliffy, PlantUML and Mermaid), or Data Center only.

Fix broken macros

  1. In the results, choose a fix for each broken macro you want to clean up: Replace with a note or Remove completely. You can apply a fix across all pages or to single pages.
  2. Click Preview. Nothing is changed yet. The preview lists every page that would change and exactly what would happen.
  3. Click Confirm to apply. Each page shows its result and its old and new version numbers.

"Replace with a note" puts a short panel where the macro was, saying the original is in page history. "Remove completely" deletes the macro from the page.

Safety rules

Undo a change

  1. Open the change log in Broken Macro Fixer and click the page's history link (or open the page and choose Page history).
  2. Find the version just before the Broken Macro Fixer edit and click Restore.

Every fix is saved as a normal page version, so restoring works like any other Confluence edit.

Weekly rescans

Turn on weekly rescans in the app's settings. When new broken macros appear (for example, after another app is uninstalled), a banner shows how many were found since the last scan. Rescans only read pages and never change them.

Data and privacy

The app runs entirely on Atlassian (Forge), sends no data outside Atlassian, and stores no personal data. See the privacy policy.
